Overview

A4 label sheets are flat stock printed on the office laser or inkjet printer you already own, with no barcode printer needed. They suit small, occasional jobs: a handful of cartons to mark, a batch of sample numbers before a trade show, a few asset labels at short notice.

Nine layouts

Standard 210x297mm sheet. The full sheet is uncut for your own trimming; 2-up is 210x148.5mm halves; 3-up is 210x99mm; 4-up is 105x148.5mm quarters. Facestock comes in gloss, matte and kraft: gloss gives the brightest colour, matte avoids glare and scans more reliably, kraft suits a natural or eco packaging look.

Laser versus inkjet

Laser fuser rollers run hot. If the adhesive cannot take that heat it creeps out from the label edge during a long run and gums the roller, so pick a heat-resistant adhesive for laser use. With inkjet the ink matters: pigment ink resists water and matte stock dries fast with crisp edges, while dye ink smears when wet unless laminated.

When not to use A4

Cost per label is higher than roll stock, so it loses on volume, and the die layouts are fixed. Past a few hundred labels a month, rolls on a barcode printer are cheaper.

FAQ

Will laser printing cause adhesive bleed?|The fuser runs hot and a low-temp adhesive can creep from the edge and stick to the roller. Use the heat-resistant version and test one sheet first. Does inkjet ink smear?|Pigment ink on matte stock gives the crispest result. Dye ink smears when wet, so choose pigment ink or laminate if the label needs water resistance. Can the labels be peeled and re-applied?|Standard stock uses permanent adhesive and will leave residue if lifted whole. Ask for the removable version if it must be repositioned. Can I trim the full sheet myself?|Yes, with a trimmer along the edge. For exact sizes and clean edges, order the 2-up, 3-up or 4-up die-cut layouts instead.
